Clients move their own bookings: how it works and the cut-off
On 9 October 2026 I opened my own client account on slotsy.io, found a booking for a group pilates class on Tuesday, 13 October at 10:00, and clicked the move icon. The window showed seven days. Only Thursday, 15 October at 10:00 was available: on the other days the class does not run or the studio is closed, and Tuesday itself has no other time. There is nothing else to choose from. I did not move the booking, I only looked at what a client sees.
Short answer. In Slotsy a client moves their own booking in their account: "My Bookings" → the move icon on the card → a day → a free hour → "Move booking". They see only the hours the studio can actually accept, no sooner than 30 minutes from now. It is the same booking: the service, the staff member, the pass and the payment do not change. The studio sets the cut-off with the same setting as for cancellations: anytime, or 1 to 48 hours before the start, 24 hours by default. After the cut-off only the studio moves the booking, from its own panel, at any time. Checked 9.10.2026.
You can have a booking page with moving today: create a Free account in Slotsy. 0 zł for one person, no card, works alongside the system you use now. In 15 minutes you set up the booking page, choose the cut-off and write it into the rules text.
How a client moves a booking
- The client signs in with the same e-mail the booking was made with: a sign-in link arrives by e-mail, or they use Google. There is no password.
- They open "My Bookings". There are three tabs: "Upcoming", "Past", "All".
- On the booking card they click the move icon (a calendar with a clock). The "Move this booking" window opens.
- They pick a day on the strip (arrows show earlier and later days), then an hour.
- They click "Move booking".
The same path starts from the confirmation e-mail: "View Booking" → "Sign in to manage" → after signing in the client is back on their booking's page, which has "Reschedule" and "Cancel" buttons.
The client gets an e-mail with the new time. The staff member the client is booked with gets a "booking moved" e-mail with the old and new time. The cancellation window has a "Move it instead" button that opens the same window, so someone who was about to cancel can stay.
Fewer messages asking "can I come another day", and the booking is not lost between a cancellation and a new one. The client-side description is in the help centre: moving a booking.
Which hours the client sees
The client sees only hours the studio can actually accept, and none with less than 30 minutes of notice. An hour appears in the list when all of this holds at once:
- the studio is open, the service runs that day, the staff member works;
- the visit fits entirely before closing time;
- the hour is free, and on a group class there are places left;
- at least 30 minutes remain before the start.
The booking's current hour on its own day is not offered; the same hour on other days is. A greyed-out day means the studio or the staff member is not working, or everything is taken. The server checks the choice again, so an hour that is not in the list cannot be submitted.
What the client can change and what not
They change the day and the hour. The staff member and the service can be changed only by a separate booking.
| Client | Studio in the panel | |
|---|---|---|
| Day and hour | Yes, from free ones | Yes, from free ones or any time by hand ("Set another time") |
| Staff member | No | No (in the move window) |
| Service | No, only a separate booking | No (in the move window) |
| After the cut-off | No | Yes, any time |
Because it is the same booking, a prepayment and a used pass visit stay with it. With "cancel and book again" a pass visit can be lost under the studio's visit-return rules: visit return rules.
Where to set the cut-off
You set it in Booking Settings → Cancellation → Minimum cancellation notice: Anytime, 1, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours, 24 by default. The same number applies to cancelling and to moving. Guide: cancellation rules.
There is one number for a reason. If cancelling were allowed an hour before and moving only a day before, the client would simply cancel and book again, and the rule would be bypassed the long way round.
What to set depends on the studio. This is a hint, not a rule:
| Studio | Cut-off | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Group classes where someone else can take the place | 12–24 hours | time to give the place away |
| Long procedures (colouring, tattoo) | 24–48 hours | hard to fill the gap on the last day |
| Short services, you work alone | 2–4 hours or Anytime | a move beats a no-show |
After the cut-off, instead of the buttons the client sees "Moving or cancelling online is no longer possible: it is less than 24 h before the start." (the number is the studio's cut-off) and the studio's phone number, if it is in the settings. The studio moves the booking from its own panel at any time, even an hour before the start, and can skip the e-mail to the client (there is a "Notify customer by email" checkbox for that). How it looks in the panel: moving a booking in the panel.
How other systems do it
Data from the systems' own help pages, checked 9.10.2026, no ratings.
| Slotsy | Booksy | Fresha | Bookero | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Client moves it themselves | Yes, in the account | Yes, in the app ("Wizyty" → "Zmień") | Yes, online | the features page describes only cancelling |
| Cut-off set by the studio | yes, 0 to 48 hours, shared with cancelling | not stated on the page | yes, a cancel/reschedule deadline | — |
| Change the staff member | No | Yes (without a prepayment) | not stated on the page | — |
| Group class | Yes, if places are left | not stated on the page | No ("Clients cannot reschedule group appointments online") | — |
| After a prepayment | Yes, the payment stays with the booking | date and time only | Yes | — |
In Booksy a client changing the date can also change the staff member and add a service, a note or a photo. Slotsy changes only the day and the hour. So Slotsy fits where clients usually see one staff member; if people in your salon often switch, moving in Booksy is more convenient.
Bookero's features page describes self-service cancelling from a link in an e-mail or SMS, without signing in. In Slotsy any change requires signing in with the booking's e-mail. That way a forwarded e-mail lets nobody change someone else's booking, but it is one step longer. If your clients mostly cancel straight from the e-mail, Bookero takes one step fewer.
Downsides of Slotsy
- The client does not change the staff member or the service, only the day and the hour.
- Moving requires signing in with the e-mail the booking was made with.
- There is one cut-off for the whole studio, shared with cancelling: "move up to 2 hours, cancel up to 24 hours" cannot be set separately.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Slotsy client move a booking without calling? Yes. In their Slotsy account: "My Bookings" → the move icon → day and hour. Only the studio's free hours are offered.
Until when can a Slotsy client move a booking? Until the cut-off the studio sets: anytime, or 1 to 48 hours before the start, 24 hours by default. The same cut-off applies to cancelling. Checked 9.10.2026.
Do a prepayment or a pass visit stay after moving in Slotsy? Yes. A moved booking is the same booking, and the payment and the pass stay with it.
Can a client change the staff member in Slotsy? No, only the day and the hour. A different staff member needs a new booking. In Booksy a client can pick another staff member when changing the time; with a prepaid booking, only the date and time (9.10.2026).
Does the studio find out about the move? Yes. The staff member the client is booked with gets an e-mail with the old and new time; the client gets an e-mail with the new time.
What if the cut-off has passed? Instead of the buttons the client sees that the booking can no longer be changed online, and the studio's phone number. They call or write to the studio, and the studio moves the booking in the panel at any time.
What a whole booking looks like when the client does not need an account is covered in the article on simple online booking without an account. All the measurements on simple booking are in one place: simple online booking.
