Selling an e-book on your studio page: what you keep of 55 zł
At the pilates studio in Kraków where Slotsy started, the studio page sells one book: in Ukrainian, about the body, for 55 zł. On 1 October I went through the purchase flow as a client myself, all the way to the payment button, and opened the purchases page in the account. The next day I checked the same flow against Polish consumer law and found a gap: Slotsy does not ask the buyer for the consent required when a digital content purchase loses its right of withdrawal. I logged it as a product task.
I checked Slotsy, heyhey, Naffy, Payhip, Gumroad and Stripe prices on 05.10.2026 at stripe.com/pl/pricing, heyhey.pl/cennik, help.naffy.io, payhip.com/pricing and gumroad.com/pricing; the consumer rights act at eli.gov.pl.
Quick answer. From a 55 zł e-book sold by card through a studio page on Slotsy, the author keeps 50.42 zł: the platform takes 5% (2.75 zł) on every plan, Stripe takes 1.5% + 1 zł (1.83 zł). On heyhey (Starter plan, 0% commission) the author keeps 53.17 zł, on Naffy (6%) up to 51.70 zł, on Payhip (Free plan, 5%) the same as on Slotsy, 50.42 zł, and on Gumroad (10% + 0.50 USD) 47.56 zł. Slotsy makes sense when the buyers are clients who already book classes through the studio page: the book sits next to the schedule, with no separate shop and no subscription. Checked 05.10.2026.

What is left of 55 zł
| Where | Platform fee | Payment fee | Left from 55 zł | Subscription |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Slotsy (any plan, including Free) | 5% = 2.75 zł | Stripe 1.5% + 1 zł = 1.83 zł | 50.42 zł | from 0 zł |
| heyhey Starter | 0% | operator fee separate; with Stripe 1.83 zł | 53.17 zł | 0 zł (1 product, 50 contacts) |
| Naffy | 6% = 3.30 zł | help page does not state it | up to 51.70 zł | 0 zł |
| Payhip Free | 5% = 2.75 zł | Stripe separate, 1.83 zł at 1.5% + 1 zł | 50.42 zł | $0 |
| Gumroad (direct link) | 10% + $0.50 = 7.44 zł | included | 47.56 zł | $0 |
VAT and income tax sit outside this table. Payhip and Gumroad handle VAT on the sale for you (Gumroad as merchant of record); on Slotsy and heyhey you handle it yourself, so ask your accountant. For Payhip and heyhey the Stripe fee is an example: the real fee depends on the operator and payment method.
Ten sales a month
At 10 copies a month, total fees come to: Slotsy 45.80 zł, heyhey Starter 18.30 zł (Stripe fee only), Payhip Free 45.80 zł, Gumroad 74.40 zł. Naffy is 33.00 zł in commission plus a payment operator fee the help page does not state.
Where others do better
Per copy, heyhey (53.17 zł) and Naffy (up to 51.70 zł) leave the author more; Payhip leaves the same as Slotsy. Until 4 October 2026 Slotsy took 30% and was the most expensive of the five; since 5 October it takes 5% on every plan. Payhip and Gumroad handle EU VAT on the sale for you, Slotsy does not. heyhey and Naffy are Polish, support BLIK and Przelewy24, and are built for selling files and courses; Slotsy sells only files, no online courses and no subscriptions.
If you sell to strangers from Instagram or ads, a file platform is cheaper. Slotsy makes sense when the buyers are already clients who book classes through the studio page: the book sits next to the schedule, with no extra account and no extra subscription.
How it works in Slotsy
In the admin panel the owner opens Digital Products, then New Product. A new product can only be a downloadable file: PDF, EPUB, DOCX, PPTX, JPG, PNG, WEBP, MP3, M4A, MP4 or ZIP up to 100 MB, with the extension matching the content. The price is Free or Paid in the company's currency; optionally there is a Cover Image (JPEG or PNG up to 5 MB) and a free preview, a separate PDF excerpt turned on with the Enable free preview switch.
A product goes through review: Save Draft, then Submit for Review, moving through Draft, Pending Review, Published or Rejected with a reason. Replacing the file sends the product back to review; title, description, price and cover can change right away. Paid products need the studio's own Stripe account connected in Payment Settings, and the money lands in that account, the same as payments for visits. The Earnings tab shows total earnings, number sold and the last 10 sales with your share and the full price; there are no charts, filters or export, so the full payment history and refunds live in the Stripe dashboard.
A client sees the book in the Products tab on the studio page: cover, type, title, description, price. Buy Now opens the Stripe payment page with the methods the studio enabled; a free product downloads with the Get Free button. No account is needed to pay, an email is enough. The file does not arrive by email: the client signs in to Slotsy with that same email (a link by email or Google), opens Purchases in the account and presses Download, and each press creates a link valid for 60 minutes. The same product cannot be bought twice; it then shows as Purchased.
What is missing today
The platform takes 5% of every paid sale. You sell only files, no online courses and no subscriptions. The file does not arrive by email, the client has to sign in with that same address. Nobody handles VAT for you. And the consent for losing the right of withdrawal, required by consumer law, is not yet collected by Slotsy as of 05.10.2026.
What the law says about returning an e-book
Article 27(1) of the Polish Consumer Rights Act gives a consumer who buys at a distance 14 days to withdraw from the contract without giving a reason. Article 38(1)(13) removes this right for paid digital content not supplied on a tangible medium, but only when all three conditions hold at once: the seller started delivery with the consumer's express prior consent; the consumer was told that after delivery they lose the right to withdraw, and acknowledged it; the seller sent a confirmation of the contract (Article 21(1)) that includes that consent.
If the buyer did not give that consent, after downloading the file she still has 14 days to withdraw from the contract and get the 55 zł back.
As of 05.10.2026, Slotsy does not ask the buyer for that consent and does not send an email confirmation of the purchase. I logged this as a product task; until it ships, assume a client can withdraw within 14 days.
This is not legal advice; for regular file sales ask a lawyer and an accountant about VAT and income tax.
Setting it up
- Connect Stripe (Payment Settings), needed for paid products.
- Digital Products, then New Product: title, description, Paid plus price, file.
- Cover and free preview, optional, a few pages as a separate PDF.
- Save Draft, then Submit for Review, and wait for Published.
- Tell clients: the book is in the Products tab on the page, and downloading it needs the same email they bought it with.
