Pay when booking or on site: what to choose for a salon

By Oleksandr Polianskyi, founder, Slotsy
7 min read

In the pilates studio in Kraków where Slotsy started, "Pay on site" is switched off: a class is booked only with online payment or with a pass. On a brand-new salon I set up on 2 October 2026 (the measurement for the article about starting in 15 minutes) it was the opposite: Stripe was not connected yet, and the client saw only "Pay on site". Same product, two opposite settings. The choice depends on the studio.

Short answer. Slotsy has three modes: on site only (until Stripe is connected this is the only option, and it costs 0), online or on site at the client's choice (Stripe connected, "Pay on site" on, the default), and online only ("Pay on site" off). For a 100 zł visit paid online by BLIK on the Free plan the salon pays 4.60 zł (Stripe 1.6% + 1 zł = 2.60 zł, Slotsy 2% = 2.00 zł); on Start 3.60 zł; on site 0. When you refund a payment, neither the Stripe fee nor Slotsy's fee comes back. The setting applies to the whole studio, not to a single service. Stripe prices checked 7.10.2026.

You can start with payment on site and connect Stripe later. Create a Free account in Slotsy: 0 zł for one person, no card, works alongside the system you use now.

Three modes in Slotsy

ModeHow to set in SlotsySuits whenDownside
On site onlyStripe not connectedregular clients, short cheap services, a starta no-show costs you the slot
Client's choiceStripe connected + "Pay on site" onmost salons: online for those who want it, cash or terminal for regularsno-shows among those paying on site
Online onlyStripe connected + "Pay on site" offlong or expensive services, new clients, frequent no-showsa fee on every booking; refunds cost the fees; applies to every service

On site only. You connect nothing and pay nothing to Slotsy or Stripe. The client books a time and pays when they arrive. You get zero cost and zero protection against a no-show.

Client's choice. On the booking page the client sees the online methods (card, BLIK, Przelewy24, via Stripe) and next to them "Pay on site" with the line "Pay when you arrive". You get prepayments from clients who choose them, and the rest pay as before.

Online only. You switch off "Pay on site (pay later)" on the Payment Processors page. You get bookings paid in advance, at the full price of the service.

What 100 zł costs

The Stripe fee is a percentage plus 1 zł per transaction; on top of it comes Slotsy's platform fee by plan: Free 2%, Start 1%, Team 0.5%, Business 0.3%. Slotsy takes nothing from payments on site.

How the client paysFree (2%)Start (1%)Team (0.5%)Business (0.3%)
On site0 zł0 zł0 zł0 zł
BLIK online2.60 + 2.00 = 4.60 zł2.60 + 1.00 = 3.60 zł2.60 + 0.50 = 3.10 zł2.60 + 0.30 = 2.90 zł
Card online (EEA)2.50 + 2.00 = 4.50 zł2.50 + 1.00 = 3.50 zł2.50 + 0.50 = 3.00 zł2.50 + 0.30 = 2.80 zł
Przelewy24 online2.90 + 2.00 = 4.90 zł2.90 + 1.00 = 3.90 zł2.90 + 0.50 = 3.40 zł2.90 + 0.30 = 3.20 zł

Cost to the salon for a 100 zł visit. The first number in each sum is the Stripe fee (BLIK 1.6% + 1 zł, card 1.5% + 1 zł, Przelewy24 1.9% + 1 zł, per stripe.com/pl/pricing on 7.10.2026), the second is Slotsy's fee. A card terminal or cash on site means your own terminal fees, which are not counted here.

BLIK on the Free plan is 4.60 zł out of 100 zł. The same BLIK on Start costs 3.60 zł. More on BLIK and cards in BLIK and cards online without a terminal.

No-shows, cancellations and refunds

With online payment the client has already paid for that time. The client accepts your cancellation rules before paying; in Slotsy you set them in Booking Rules.

You refund by hand on the Payments page, in full or in part. Stripe does not return its own fees on a refund: its pricing says the payment processing, Connect and currency conversion fees from the original transaction are not returned. Slotsy's platform fee does not come back either (this is in the Terms). A generous refund policy therefore has a cost: if you give back 100 zł paid by BLIK on the Free plan, you lose 4.60 zł. A partial refund is cheaper than a full refund followed by a new payment.

Whether you may keep part of a deposit after a cancellation is covered in the article on deposits and advances in a salon, together with the 14-day withdrawal period.

What Slotsy does not do here

One setting for the whole studio. You cannot set online only for a long colouring and on site for a haircut. There is also no prepayment of a chosen amount: online means the full price of the service. Slotsy does not automatically charge a saved card after a no-show.

If you need online prepayment for just one long service, Slotsy today gives you a choice: online only for every service, or the client's choice plus a reminder that online payment is welcome.

How to set it

  1. Open Payment Processors and connect Stripe. Description: Stripe Connect.
  2. Decide on the "Pay on site (pay later)" switch: "Allow customers to pay on site instead of paying online". It is on by default. On: the client chooses online or on site. Off: online only.
  3. In Booking Rules set the minimum cancellation notice: anytime or from 1 to 48 hours, 24 hours by default, and write the rules text the client accepts before paying. Guide: cancellation rules.
  4. Set "Hold an unpaid slot for": from 5 to 60 minutes, 15 by default. That is how long a time stays reserved while the client is on the payment screen.
  5. Book a visit as a client and look at the screen your client will see. Refunds and the payment list are described in the payments overview.

When the money arrives

Online, the money goes to your own Stripe account. In Poland Stripe pays out every 3 business days by default, and the first payout comes about 7 days after the first payment. Until Stripe is connected, the client sees only "Pay on site" (our measurement of 2.10.2026).

Frequently asked questions

Can clients pay on site in Slotsy? Yes. Until Stripe is connected it is the only option; afterwards it stays on until you switch "Pay on site" off. Slotsy takes nothing from payments on site.

How much does an online payment of 100 zł cost the salon? With BLIK on the Free plan 4.60 zł (Stripe 2.60 zł + Slotsy 2.00 zł); on Start 3.60 zł. Stripe prices as of 7.10.2026.

Can I require online payment only for one service? No. "Pay on site" is one setting for the whole studio.

Can I take a deposit instead of the full price? Not as a separate amount: online payment in Slotsy is the full price. After a cancellation or no-show you refund from Payments, in full or in part. What you may keep is a legal question covered in the deposit article.

What happens to fees after a refund? Stripe does not return its fee, and Slotsy's platform fee is not returned either.

When does the money arrive? On your own Stripe account, and from there to your bank: in Poland Stripe pays out every 3 business days by default, the first payout about 7 days after the first payment.
